Fulham are in a precarious position as a European big-hitter looks to close in on one of their strikers.

Fulham should consider a swap deal to solve what could be a huge issue this summer. The Cottagers have had a poor summer transfer window so far, with Marco Silva clearly unhappy with the lack of recruitment, with only a goalkeeper signed.

Silva said recently: “We hope we can strengthen the squad in the three or four positions we need to before the first game. Some positions are really short and we have to add players, yes or yes until the end of the market because it’s not what we expect in this moment of the season to don’t have at least one, two or three players we needed for the beginning of the season.

“We expected much more activity from ourselves in terms of recruitment, players in. Unfortunately, they are not here. The worst thing we can have now is more injuries. (Antonee Robinson) had the small surgery, it will take a little bit more time for him to be ready.”

Even after those comments, Fulham have not responded, and they now look set to lose one of only two strikers on their books, with Rodrigo Muniz being pursued by Serie A club Atalanta. The Cottagers are said to have rejected a £40million bid, but Fabrizio Romano says the Italian club are still confident of striking an agreement.

He posted on X: “Atalanta are confident to get Rodrigo Muniz deal done with Fulham as talks are advancing. Muniz, keen on move to Serie A with negotiations underway.”

The issue for Fulham is that they don’t have a replacement for Muniz, given they currently have only two out-and-out strikers, and a departure would mean they are left needing two signings at the position.

Lookman solution

One potential solution would be to pass up the fee being offered by Atalanta and instead proposing a swap deal that would see Ademola Lookman arrive at Craven Cottage on a swap deal. Lookman has been superb at Atalanta, and he has reportedly been pushing for an exit this summer amid interest from Inter Milan.

Lookman operates as a second striker for the most part, ad he scored 15 goals in 31 league appearances last season. With Lookman valued at a similar price as Muniz, there could be a swap deal in the offing, although Lookman would have to want a return to England, where he previously spent time with Everton and Leicester City,

Arsenal legend Ian Weight has previously said of the striker: “I would love someone like him to come back to the Premier League and say, ‘Listen, I have unfinished business here so I am going to help Arsenal win the league. But I just admire his journey and now he’s recognised rightly as a top player – unbelievable."
