Newcastle United ‘on alert’ after Yoane Wissa training bombshell as transfer dominoes fall

Newcastle United transfer news: Brentford striker Yoane Wissa remains a player of interest for Newcastle United this summer.

Brentford striker Yoane Wissa has been instructed to train away from Keith Andrews’ first-team squad as they prepare for their Premier League opener against Nottingham Forest on Sunday. Wissa has been linked with a move away from the Gtech Community Stadium throughout the summer and has reportedly told the Bees that he won’t play for them again if his exit is not sanctioned.

The Mail report that Wissa, who has been the subject of a number of bids from Newcastle United this summer, has been told he must train with a group of players who ‘won’t be part of this season’s first-team squad’. Newcastle and Brentford have not yet come to an agreement over Wissa, but movement on a deal could ignite quickly if the Bees can find a replacement for him.

Having already lost Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Norgaard and manager Thomas Frank this summer, the Bees have had to deal with an exodus and had initially been reluctant to see Wissa join those players out of the exit door. However, their stance has seemingly softened over the summer and it is understood that should Brentford be able to sign a replacement for the 28-year-old, then he will be allowed to leave west London.

Yoane Wissa transfer latest - dominoes to fall?

If Wissa is to become a Newcastle United player before the end of the summer transfer window, then movement in the market elsewhere will be needed. Brentford have reportedly set their sights on Bournemouth’s Dango Ouattara as Wissa’s replacement in the capital.

Ouattara thought he had scored a late winner for the Cherries against the Magpies last season, only for VAR to controversially chalk off that strike. Eddie Howe’s side escaped from the Vitality Stadium that day with a point.

However, before Ouattara can join Brentford, Bournemouth will need to source a replacement. Bayer Leverkusen striker Amine Adli has been named as a potential option and movement on that deal in the coming days could then see the dominoes fall and lead to Wissa finally becoming a Newcastle United player.

Whilst Newcastle United remain on alert for developments involving Ouattara, Adlie et al, they have a Premier League game against Aston Villa to prepare for at the weekend. The Magpies make the trip to Villa Park on Saturday (12:30pm kick-off) and will have new signing Malick Thiaw available to them.

Thiaw’s move from AC Milan was confirmed on Tuesday night and the German international, although unlikely to start at Villa Park, could be available for selection. For Wissa to be available to Howe, meanwhile, would require those aforementioned dominoes to fall, and to fall very quickly.

Wissa netted 19 goals in the Premier League last season and whilst he is viewed as Callum Wilson’s replacement at St James’ Park, the current situation involving Alexander Isak means he may start the campaign as the Magpies’ first-choice striker. Anthony Gordon, who scored nine times last season, is expected to start up-front in the midlands this weekend against Unai Emery’s side.
