Premier League officials currently have no immediate intention of matching La Liga and Serie A’s plans to play games overseas, sources have told Football Insider.
Villarreal’s home match against Barcelona could become the first European league fixture to be played abroad after the Spanish football federation has approved plans to host the game in the US.
The RFEF is now set to seek permission from Fifa and Uefa to play the game at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami on 20 December.
Meanwhile, AC Milan are pushing to host their Serie A match against Como in Perth, Australia, in February, but the plans require approval from Fifa, Uefa, Football Australia and the Asian Football Confederation.
The Italian and Spanish Super Cups have both been played overseas in recent years as the federations look to appeal to a wider audience.
The Premier League previously championed a proposal for a 39th league game in 2008, but a fierce backlash from fans saw the plans collapse and never resurface.
La Liga and Serie A’s moves to play matches abroad have led to speculation about whether the Premier League could soon look to follow suit.

However, sources say Premier League officials currently have no immediate intention of playing games overseas.
It is believed there is already sufficient global interest in the English top-flight and there would be little financial benefit of playing matches abroad at this moment in time.

Man United land £15m windfall
Premier League sides have been travelling across Europe, Asia and the US as part of their pre-season plans in recent years.
Multiple clubs have played games in different countries and cities, with the pre-season tours helping boost their commercial revenue.
Manchester United, Everton, West Ham and Bournemouth recently competed in the Premier League’s Summer Series in the US.
Football Insider revealed in April Man United could land £15million from their US tour, handing them a significant financial boost.
Ruben Amorim’s side also travelled to Asia for their first-ever post-season tour in May, where they played ASEAN All-Stars in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Hong Kong at the Hong Kong Stadium.

It’s been another busy transfer window for Premier League clubs, with the current spending reaching close to £2billion.
Liverpool are so far the biggest spenders, having forked out more than £250million in transfer fees.
Alexander Isak could increase Liverpool’s spending dramatically as he continues to be linked with a move to Anfield.
However, Newcastle United are holding out for a huge fee for their star striker after already rejecting an offer worth £110million plus add-ons from Arne Slot’s side this summer.
