'Not good': PSG expert shares the two big reasons why Gianluigi Donnarumma could really…

If Manchester City sign Gianluigi Donnarumma this summer, they would arguably be securing the services of the most in-form goalkeeper in world football currently.

It seemed like switch flicked within the Italian international to up his game after letting Harvey Elliott’s tame strike bypass him during the first leg of the Champions League Round of 16 against Liverpool.

However, Donnarumma has announced his exit from PSG, with one year left on his contract.

Donnarumma has agreed personal terms with Manchester City but a move is yet to be finalised.

PSG fan Julien Laurens says Gianluigi Donnarumma does not suit Man City

However, in the past, Gianluigi Donnarumma has had his fair share of struggles as PSG’s number one.

During the Parisians’ 3-2 defeat to Barcelona in 2024, the treble-winner was arguably culpable for all three goals. Donnarumma parried the ball into Raphinha’s path for his first goal, gifting the ball to the opposition, which led to Pedri assisting the Brazilian’s second strike and failing to claim the ball from a corner — leading to Andreas Christensen’s winner.

Journalist and PSG fan Julien Laurens has claimed that with Donnarumma not being adept in possession and aerially, he could struggle in the Premier League if Manchester City signed him, explaining: “Manchester City are the only club in for Donnarumma atm [at the moment]. I’m amazed by it.”

“He is not a Pep type of keeper, unless City change the way they play.”

“But he is not good in the air (which you need to do well in the PL) and not great on the ball (which you need to play for Pep)!”

Pep Guardiola’s stance on Gianluigi Donnarumma has already been revealed

The counterargument to Laurens’ claim could be that the former AC Milan shotstopper has improved his game.

Based on his performances in the Champions League last season, Donnarumma has shown that he can operate at a consistently high standard.

Luis Enrique dubbed Donnarumma as “world-class” and it looks like he has entered his prime.

Pep Guardiola is a big fan of Donnarumma, which perhaps highlights why City have been eyeing him for a while.

However, apart from Guardiola, even some City players seem to rate him highly.

For example, Erling Haaland, who liked Donnarumma’s Instagram post confirming he is leaving PSG.
