Man City Have Identified“Cheaper”Rodrygo Alternative Who Has Praised Arsenal Legend

Manchester City may pursue Monaco winger Maghnes Akliouche if they can’t secure the services of Real Madrid’s Rodrgyo, according to journalist Florian Plettenberg.

The Sky Germany reporter claims the Frenchman is deemed a “cheaper” alternative and could be targeted by Pep Guardiola’s side before the transfer window closes.

Akliouche has been linked with a move to the Etihad before. Both the Cityzens and Manchester United were mentioned as potential suitors back in April.

It was suggested that Monaco were hoping to get around €70m (£60m) and €80m (£69m) for the player, although they may settle for a fee in the region of €50m (£43m).

That would certainly make Akliouche slightly less expensive than Rodrygo, with Real reportedly demanding between €90m (£78m) and €100m (£86m) for the Brazilian international

The Man City target has been mentored by Thierry Henry

Akliouche was called up for the Olympics last year by Thierry Henry, who managed France at the tournament in Tokyo. Speaking about the Arsenal legend, the winger praised the guidance that he had been given:

“Both on and off the pitch, he gives me a lot of advice. Thanks to his experience as a player and coach, his words are gold. You have to pay attention to them. When he says something to you, you pay attention because he never says just anything.”

Akliouche featured all six matches in the Olympics last August, scoring in the 5-3 loss to Spain in the final.

A lot depends on Savinho’s future

It is thought that any move for Rodrygo or Akliouche will likely hinge on whether the 21-year-old leaves before deadline day.

Despite Tottenham having registered an interest in Savinho, a move doesn’t seem to be on the cards at the moment, with the two sides reportedly very far apart on their valuations of the player.
