Manchester United have confirmed youngster Jack Fletcher is training with the first-team ahead of Sunday's Premier League opener against Arsenal at Old Trafford.

Fletcher, who is the son of former United midfielder and now-Under-18s boss Darren, is one of the most highly-rated players emerging from the club's academy.

The midfielder recently went on the club's pre-season tour of the United States and came off the bench in the second half of the 2-1 win over West Ham United at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey. He also featured from the bench in the 0-0 draw against Leeds United that proceeded the US tour.

The 18-year-old, who scored four goals in nine Premier League 2 appearances for United's Under-21s last season, is yet to make his competitive first-team debut for the club. However, he was named on the bench on seven occasions last season.

Alongside his brother Tyler, Fletcher joined United from cross-city rivals Manchester City in the summer of 2023. The duo crossed the Manchester divide for a combined fee of £1.25million.

Ahead of Sunday's Premier League curtain-raiser against the Gunners, United are not overly blessed with midfield options. The club's website paints a picture of how thin on the ground United are in that particular department.

With Dan Gore having joined Rotherham United on loan for the season earlier this summer, United have just six midfielders listed on their website within the first-team squad. However, that number is soon expected to shrink further amid the anticipated loan exit of Toby Collyer.

Furthermore, Mason Mount has been identified as a No.10 by head coach Ruben Amorim, meaning Casemiro, Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes make up the Portuguese chief's senior midfield options.

United are keen to strengthen their midfield ranks before the transfer window closes on September 1 and have expressed interest in signing Brighton & Hove Albion ace Carlos Baleba.
