Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United has taken a fresh twist, with the striker still pushing for a move to Liverpool.
As per reports from The Athletic, the Swedish forward has made it clear he does not want to play for Eddie Howe’s side again, training away from the main group while the saga drags on.
Liverpool had a £110 million bid rejected earlier this summer, and Newcastle are holding firm on their £150 million valuation.
The Reds are reportedly taking a “wait and see” approach — but time is ticking, with the transfer window closing on September 1.
It’s a remarkable fall from grace for a player once seen as Newcastle’s most exciting striker since Alan Shearer.
Just months ago, fans dreamed of him wearing the famous No. 9 shirt. But as he revealed on the Adopted Geordies podcast, he preferred sticking with No. 14, a number he has worn since his Borussia Dortmund days.

How Alexander Isak’s Newcastle stand-off could play in Liverpool’s favour?
The deadlock could soon break. Newcastle are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Jacob Ramsey from Aston Villa.
While Ramsey is not a striker, his arrival would boost the Magpies’ attacking options and potentially open the door for Isak’s exit.
Villa’s willingness to sell Ramsey comes as they target a reunion with Marco Asensio from PSG. If that deal goes through, Newcastle may finally feel they have enough cover to sanction Isak’s departure.
For now, Howe has confirmed Isak won’t be part of the squad. “It’s clear at the moment that we can’t involve him with the group,” Howe said. “I don’t know how long that will be for, but that’s the latest.”
Liverpool face Newcastle at St James’ Park on August 25 — and in a twist worthy of football drama, there’s still a chance Isak could be lining up for the visitors by then. The ball, as they say, is in Newcastle’s court.
