Newcastle United’s Premier League season gets underway this weekend and Northumbria Police has issued a message to fans ahead of the new campaign.
This comes after the news that there were 41 arrests of Newcastle United supporters in the recent season – down from 61 a year earlier.
The data comes from recent Home Office figures, which revealed the number of football-related arrests during the 2024-25 season, alongside the number of football banning orders in force.

Eddie Howe’s side start the season at Aston Villa in the first early kick off of the new campaign.
This year also marks the first time since the 2015-16 season that Newcastle United will play Sunderland in a league fixture.
Chief Superintendent Mark Hall, Football Lead for Northumbria Police, said: “Football supporters in the North East are renowned nationally and globally for their loyalty and passion.
“We know there is a lot of excitement building ahead of the new season, with both of our major professional sides playing in the top-flight together for the first time since 2016.
“As ever, our role is to help ensure fans have a safe and enjoyable time when attending matches – and that any disruption is kept to a minimum.
“This is not something we can do alone, and we work year-round with football clubs and wider partners, including local authorities and transport providers.”
“The overwhelming majority of supporters across all of our teams in the region are impeccably behaved and we appreciate their support each season.
“Sadly, on occasion, a minority of people do set out to cause trouble – and when incidents do occur, we will always look to take robust action against those involved.
“Anyone with any concerns is encouraged to speak to an officer on duty or report them through our channels.”
