Manchester City considering hijack of top Chelsea target - Chelsea News

Manchester City are considering a hijack of Chelsea’s impending deal for Xavi Simons. The highly rated Dutchman has agreed personal terms with Chelsea, but so far no agreement has been reached between Chelsea and RB Leipzig.

TalkSport has reported that City are interested in the player and could propose a swoop of their own, but any move for the player would depend on outgoings first. City have just loaned Jack Grealish to Everton, while James McAtee is nearing a switch to Nottingham Forest.

Young Brazilian winger Savinho is also the subject of interest from Tottenham, and while City do not want to sell they will not stand in his way if he pushes for the move. City could soon have holes to fill in their squad and have also added Real Madrid star Rodrygo to their wishlist.

Simons is a versatile attacking player who plays mainly as an attacking midfielder but is also comfortable on either wing. He would likely be more affordable than Rodrygo who is valued by Madrid at €100m. Simons has a reported value of €70-80m.

City keen on Simons

City have already invested heavily in their squad this summer, adding Rayan Cherki and Tijjani Reijnders to a midfield unit that already includes Phil Foden, Rodri, Bernardo Silva, and Ilkay Gundogan.

Simons would likely see more minutes on the wings where options are less abundant. The playmaker is keen on a move away from RB Leipzig after the club fell to seventh place in the Bundesliga and failed to qualify for any European competition.

Ahead of next summer’s World Cup, Simons is looking to play amongst Europe’s elite. As for negotiations with Chelsea, the Blues have so far baulked at Leipzig’s asking price.

Discussing regarding sending players such as Christopher Nkunku and Tyrique George to Leipzig to bring down the cost have taken place, but so far still no agreement has been reached. City could pip the Blues to the signing by meeting the evaluation.
