Detroit Lions OL Keaton Sutherland Carted Off Field vs. Dolphins

Detroit Lions offensive lineman Keaton Sutherland suffered what appeared to be a significant injury during Wednesday’s joint practice with the Miami Dolphins in Allen Park.

According to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, Sutherland went down after taking a hard hit and remained on the ground for an extended period. Lions head coach Dan Campbell came over to check on the veteran lineman before Sutherland was eventually helped to his feet. However, he did not walk off under his own power, Sutherland was carted off the field, with teammates and coaches showing support as he exited.

Sutherland, 28, has NFL experience with the Bengals and Dolphins but spent this past season in the UFL, playing both guard and center for the Birmingham Stallions. His versatility made him an intriguing depth option for Detroit’s offensive line heading into training camp.

Originally a third-year NFL veteran out of Texas A&M, Sutherland has played in six career NFL games, making two starts. He joined the Lions looking to compete for a reserve role.

As of now, there’s no official update on the severity of Sutherland’s injury. Given his reaction and the need for a cart, the Lions and their fans will be holding their breath for good news.
