Arsenal may sanction a series of first-team departures this summer
Arsenal will feel largely happy with their summer business, with several key areas strengthened and leaving Mikel Arteta’s squad looking as impressive as ever before.
Viktor Gyokeres has been added in addition to Martin Zubimendi to elevate the Gunners’ starting XI, while depth options have been added across the pitch to ensure squad competition across several fronts in the upcoming campaign.
If the Gunners can avoid the frequent injury issues they were faced with last season, there is no reason why they cannot mount a serious title challenge once again. Arteta will hope to avoid Arsenal becoming the first ever Premier League club to finish as runners-up four seasons in a row.
Leandro Trossard set to leave this summer
Belgium forward Leandro Trossard has been a consistent member of the Arsenal squad since his arrival in January 2023, but reports by BBC Sport, relayed by Daily Cannon, state that Trossard is set to leave this summer.
The 30-year-old featured in every Premier League game last season, starting in 28 of those, and registered eight goals and eight assists in a significant contribution to the Gunners attack. But negotiations over a new deal have reportedly ‘failed to progress’ over the summer and the player is now considering other options, amidst previous links with Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce. Trossard has just a year left on his current deal, with a reported option for a further year.
Arsenal have been linked with bringing in a new player wide left, a role Trossard usually competes for with Gabriel Martinelli, and the Belgian could be sacrificed in order to raise funds for a potential deal for Eberechi Eze. The Gunners are reportedly competing with arch-rivals Tottenham Hotspur for Eze’s signature and will be determined to secure a deal for the Crystal Palace star.
‘I’m a winner who can make an impact’ - Trossard
Speaking in December 2024, Trossard told the media: “I’m just a winner. If a decision goes against me and I think it’s unfair, I take it personally—whether in training or in games. I want to win every game, and I think that should be the mindset of every football player.
“You always want to play and start games; that’s only natural,” he explained. “Maybe my body language reflects that frustration, but I’m always ready. I think I’ve shown that even when coming off the bench, I can make an impact. Whether I start or not, my goal is to help the team win.
“I’m just focused on my football. You never know how things will turn out, but I’m really happy here. I still want to win things with this team. We have a great squad and a great manager who pushes us every day to achieve great things.”
This winning attitude could yet take Trossard to pastures new this summer, as he may prefer to leave the Emirates behind and become a key man elsewhere as he approaches the latter stages of his career.
