Jalen Hurts just won Super Bowl MVP six months ago. Despite this, some fans and analysts don’t believe he’s a top 5 quarterback in the NFL. Peyton Manning didn’t rank Hurts as such last September, but he has the utmost belief in Hurts as a professional.

Manning discussed Hurts with Cris Collinsworth on the Pro Football Focus YouTube channel in early August. The Tennessee alum spoke highly of Hurts, whom he said calls him regularly to chat about the Philadelphia Eagles’ playbook.

The poise Hurts shows on gameday, and the preparation he demonstrates in their conversations, gives Manning confidence that Hurts can elevate his play to an even higher degree.

“I like the way he goes about [things]… he’s a student of the game,” Manning said. “He squats 600 pounds. He can run over guys [and] he can throw it a mile. But his appreciation of the cerebral part of the game is what’s impressive to me and how he’s taken his game to the next level. I think the sky’s the limit for this guy.”

Both Manning and Collinsworth agreed they hadn’t “met a more intense, serious human being” than Hurts. His devotion to winning, as opposed to statistical dominance, allowed the Eagles to thrive in 2024. The same approach could have him holding the Lombardi Trophy once again in Feb. 2026.

The Eagles will begin their title defense on Sept. 4 against the Dallas Cowboys.
