More than 10,000 Newcastle United fans have offered their viewpoint to the club over plans to change its crest - with four out of five supporters ‘understanding’ the need to update the badge.

Towards the end of last season the club launched a survey, alongside workshops and dedicated fan events, after confirming their intention to make a change to the crest - with 1500 fans attending two events at St James’ Park.

Supporters who took part shared their opinion on which part of the current badge matters the most to them with the castle coming out as the ‘most valued design element’ followed by the ribbon and shield.

Back in May, the club announced plans to ‘refine and revive’ the current crest which has been in place since 1988 - and in a recently released Fan Engagement Plan for the new campaign says that four out of five supporters who supplied their feedback ‘preferred updating the crest to honour tradition.’

The next stage of the process will take part throughout the new season with the club saying that any change will reflect the ‘values’ of Newcastle United and its supporters’ adding it will happen ‘through clarity, transparency and inclusive engagement.’

The fan advisory board, which has worked closely with the club, has advised that phase two of the consultation should offer supporters some examples of what the updated crest could look like.

A revamp to the club crest is just one potential major change the club are considering with the future of St James’ Parks still yet to be clarified for the generations to come.

An update on whether the club would stay and expand the ground or relocate and build a brand new stadium was due to come in early 2025 but as of yet, nothing has come.

In the plan, the club reaffirmed their desire to consult fans over any changes to come: ‘As we begin a new season, we remain committed to listening, collaborating, and celebrating our incredible fanbase. Together, we will ensure supporters have a meaningful voice in shaping the future of Newcastle United.’
