2 back, 2 out: Manchester United injury news for Arsenal clash

Two Manchester United players could be set to return from injury against Arsenal on Sunday, but another two are likely to miss out.

The Manchester Evening News report in their print edition on Wednesday, August 13th that both Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana could be in line to return to the pitch for Manchester United against Arsenal this weekend.

Zirkzee didn’t feature for United during pre-season due to an unspecified injury complaint, travelling with the team to the U.S. but failing to participate in team training.

The striker has since rejoined training, and Sunday is viewed as his possible on-pitch return date.

As for Onana, the goalkeeper has also been out for the entirety of pre-season with a hamstring injury. He took part in non-contact training sessions whilst on tour in the U.S., and he’s since returned to normal goalkeeper training back at Carrington.

Onana has been targeting a return to the pitch against Arsenal for the last few weeks, and it looks as though he’s still on track to achieve that goal.

Less likely to feature against Arsenal is Noussair Mazraoui, who hasn’t been seen in training since a fortnight ago. The player’s return date remains unknown, but unless something changes in the next couple of days, he’s surely out of the match against the Gunners.

Lisandro Martinez is the last of United’s four injured players, and there’s very little chance he’ll be involved against Arsenal.

The defender is working his way back from an ACL injury, and though he’s been around the squad in pre-season, it’s clear these injuries take time to recover from. There’s no expectation he’ll be involved in Sunday’s squad.
