Amad 'may submit Man Utd transfer request' after Ruben Amorim makes plans clear

Manchester United icon Teddy Sheringham is concerned that Amad could grow unsettled if he does not receive a chance to play in Ruben Amorim's attack this season. The talented Ivorian winger is primed for a prominent role as United's right-wing-back this term after an aggressive attacking overhaul over the summer transfer window.

Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko have all arrived at Old Trafford and look set to act as Amorim's first-choice front three this term. It leaves Amad in an unnatural position - albeit one in which he displayed that he possesses traits to thrive last season - where he will likely share duties with Diogo Dalot.

The 22-year-old has previously stressed that he is happy to contribute wherever Amorim needs, as long as he is playing.

However, Sheringham harbours concerns that Amad could grow frustrated if there are limited opportunities in his favoured role.

The 1999 treble winner went as far as to suggest Amad may be forced to consider his future at Old Trafford if he is condemned to a permanent tenancy in a more defensive position.

"Gareth Bale, he didn't really want to play at full-back. He didn't want to play that position, and can Amad make the case to push himself back into the forward line? Yeah, without a doubt," Sheringham told Snabbare.

"He loves to have a go at defenders, doesn't he? He will see these three players coming in and know what's up if he wants to play in the three up front.

"Amorim's going to persevere with them for the first six, eight games. He's got to give them a chance. He's just signed them all for big money.

"If he's not going to get his chance, Amad will be speaking to the people around him, saying, 'What am I doing now?' Am I sitting on the bench? Am I going to get 10 minutes here or five minutes here?

"He doesn't want to be playing in the reserves. He's ready for the first team.

"He'll be sitting down with his parents, thinking, 'What shall I do? Shall I hand in a transfer request? I can't be doing this.'

"All these things go on, you could end up with another unhappy player who so many people were excited about last season."

Amorim has previously proven that he can transition young wingers into effective wing-backs when his 3-4-3 system is in full flow, with Geovany Quenda.

The Portuguese head coach will hope Amad can enjoy similar success in the role ahead of a crucial campaign.
