Fair to say it’s been a great few weeks to be Marcus Rashford. By all accounts, he could not have settled into Barcelona life better – he’s clearly loving life in the sun already. Ahead of his La Liga debut in Barca’s season opener this weekend, the Man Utd striker chatted to the lively duo that is Micah Richards and Gary Lineker on The Rest is Football podcast and, amid all of Lineker’s tips accrued from his stint in the ’80s, there was a fair amount to unpack – like who knew Rashford started out as a goalkeeper?
Currently flexing his DuoLingo skills to amp up his Spanish (not a patch on Trent Alexander-Arnold's we might add), Rashford shared how training with Pedri and Lamine Yamal is (unsurprisingly) off the chart; how José Mourinho couldn’t care less about how a team performs as long as they win; and how he’s hungry for success with England and Barca.
From his appearance on the pod, we’re pleased to say there was also something for the watch fans to feast on too. When he was unveiled by the club his skeleton Patek Philippe got a lot of love, immediately giving his new teammates something to think about as among other things it raised the watch stakes within the dressing room.

This time round, he was wearing a killer Rolex – the 18k yellow gold Daytona Reference-126528LN ‘Le Mans’. Released in line with the 100th anniversary of the madness that is the 24 hour Le Mans race, watch heads at Hodikee described it as one of the hottest releases in recent years. A steel Daytona sits high up on most people’s grail list so when a limited edition yellow gold one comes along naturally people with £300k at their disposal are going to be interested. In fact, you could make up a formidable attacking line with three owners of this particular watch: Lionel Messi, Harry Kane and Marcus Rashford.
Real ones know that the white gold version of this watch was extremely hot property, so when that was discontinued and Rolex announced the yellow gold version, it was a big deal. The telltale features that distinguish these anniversary pieces are the silver subdials with so-called lollipop markers and the red 100 on the ceramic bezels as well as a display caseback when you flip the watch. But while the white gold version felt quite classy (think Roger Federer vibes), what’s great about the yellow gold version is it’s unashamedly brash and showy.
Anyone with one of these in their possession is wearing it to be seen, which is why we especially rate how Rashford is rocking his in this instance – with a white vest, pair of Zara shorts, LV sneakers and a baseball cap.
It shouts confidence, which is not something we’ve seen from the Manchester United and England player for a while. Long may that continue, and if that means more killer watch spots throughout the season too, that's a win win. Because as in football, in watch collecting winning is all that matters, right?
