Manchester United faced plenty of competition for Benjamin Sesko’s signature this summer.
The Red Devils scoured the market for a new striker this summer and ended up with a £66m deal for Benjamin Sesko from RB Leipzig.
However, it was far from an easy deal with Ineos having to beat Premier League rivals Newcastle United to the Slovenian’s signature.
Ultimately, Sesko only wanted to join United and turned down Newcastle’s approach. Earlier in the window, the 22-year-old was in talks with Arsenal as well.
Not only have United beaten their Premier League rivals to Benjamin Sesko’s signature, but they have also put a dent in Barcelona’s transfer plans.

Sesko is already impressing at United, and he looks like the perfect profile to thrive in the Premier League and in Ruben Amorim’s system.
He is viewed as an extremely promising talent, and reports from Spain suggest he was also a top target for Barcelona.
According to Sport, Barcelona director Deco rated Sesko highly and viewed him as the perfect replacement for Robert Lewandowski.

Barcelona didn’t have the financial capability to challenge United for Sesko this summer, leaving a dent in their plans for 2026.
With Sesko now off the market, Barcelona will have to turn to other options and that spells good news for United next summer.
Barcelona’s chances of signing Marcus Rashford just increased
The only significant departure at United so far this summer has been Rashford’s loan move to Barcelona, and according to Sky Sports, the buy option attached to his deal is worth £26 million.
Barcelona are expected to sign Rashford permanently next summer, and now that their plan for Sesko has collapsed, it feels even more likely to happen.
Rashford is happy to play as a striker for Barcelona, despite having struggled in the position for United.

So far in Spain, Rashford has impressed in pre-season, playing off the left and as a central striker.
Barcelona need a long-term replacement for Lewandowski and in Marcus Rashford they have a bargain option. It is a win-win for both clubs, with United hoping to cash in on the 27-year-old.
