Nottingham Forest reportedly have an agreement in place to sign Manchester City attacking sensation James McAtee this summer.
According to an update by the reliable Ben Jacobs, James McAtee is expected to complete a move to Nottingham Forest by the end of the week. The Tricky Trees have reached an agreement with fellow Premier League club Manchester City, and the English playmaker has also agreed to the move.
McAtee has been a part of the Manchester City setup since his childhood days. The youngster went up the ranks at some pace, and he was promoted to the first team in the summer of 2023. Following an impressive loan spell at Sheffield United, the Premier League giants decided to have him in their squad for last season.
While the highly-rated playmaker was involved in 27 matches, he racked up fewer than 1,000 minutes of first-team action despite having bagged seven goals. People at Manchester City are well aware of his massive potential, and they would have loved to have him around for years.
However, they cannot guarantee him a prominent role under Pep Guardiola. As a result, the 22-year-old is not keen on signing a new long-term deal. Multiple top clubs are aware of James McAtee’s situation, and they have been trying to lure him away.
McAtee to join Nottingham in the coming days
Nottingham Forest seem to have won the race for James McAtee’s signature after long-drawn negotiations with Manchester City. Nuno Espirito Santo’s team were quite impressive last season as they secured a seventh-placed finish, and the high-flying Premier League club now looking to build on it.
The Tricky Trees want more firepower in the final third to help them take the next step, and McAtee could certainly help them out. While the Englishman prefers playing as a number ten, he can feature on the flanks as well as in a deeper role in midfield.
Nottingham Forest have secured an agreement with Manchester City, and the player has also agreed to terms with the Tricky Trees. With everything set, the move should be formalised within this week. The financial details of the move have not been revealed yet, but it could be north of £20 million based on earlier reports.
