Man City reportedly want to sign £104m star who said Pep Guardiola is a 'great coach in the…

Manchester City target Rodrygo has already delivered his verdict on both the Citizens and on manager Pep Guardiola.

Man City have a serious interest in Rodrygo and talks have already taken place to sound out a potential deal for the Real Madrid winger.

With Tottenham Hotspur eyeing Savinho, City would need to bring in a replacement should he leave the club, and Rodrygo is firmly in the picture to step in.

Better still, Rodrygo clearly has a high opinion of both Guardiola and of City, as per his comments ahead of Real’s meeting with City in the Champions League last season.

Rodrygo called Pep Guardiola a ‘great coach in the history of football’

Rodrygo, who was linked with a move to the Etihad previously, took the opportunity to praise Pep Guardiola at a pre-match press conference in February 2025.

“Guardiola is a great coach in the history of football. It’s always very difficult to play against his teams,” Rodrygo said, as per Forbes.

Rodrygo has quite a solid record against City, having registered four goals and two assists in nine games against the Citizens over the years.

Prior to the knockout playoff tie between the two sides, Rodrygo said: “They are an opponent against whom I scored goals.

“I was happy against them, other times not so much. Now I’m in a very good moment and I can be decisive.

“I always try to be, not just against City. It’s special because they’re one of the best teams in the world.”

How much Manchester City could have to pay for Rodrygo

Fabrizio Romano recently reported that City are hoping to negotiate a deal for Rodrygo for less than the £86million wanted by Real.

However, reports from Spain suggested that Madrid could ask for a lot more – as much as £104million.

Rodrygo’s contract runs until the summer of 2028, so Los Blancos’ hand would be strong in negotiations.

Much also depends on whether Savinho stays at City amid interest from Tottenham. If he stays, then there may not be room for Rodrygo.
