Mohamed Salah has thanked Darwin Nunez for showing "heart in everything you did" at Liverpool after the Uruguayan completed a move to Al-Hilal last week.

The 26-year-old ended his three-year spell at Anfield last week after the Reds agreed a £46 million deal with the Saudi Pro League outfit. During his time at Anfield, the Uruguayan scored 40 goals in 143 appearances to help Liverpool win the Community Shield, League Cup and Premier League.

Writing on X on Wednesday night, Salah thanked Nunez for his efforts on Merseyside. "I consider myself lucky to have had you as a teammate and friend," said Salah. "You were always very real and brought so much good energy wherever you went.

"You made us laugh and showed heart in everything you did. You will be missed and I wish you the best in your new club." After an impressive 2021-22 season at Benfica, Nunez joined Liverpool in June 2022 in a potential club-record deal worth £85m.

But despite scoring on his debut against Manchester City in the Community Shield, Nunez struggled for form in his debut season at Anfield, scoring just nine goals in the Premier League as Liverpool limped to a fifth-place finish in the league. In his second season, the Uruguayan showed signs of improvement as Liverpool mounted a title challenge for two thirds of the season.

After Jurgen Klopp left the club in May 2024, though, Nunez struggled to win over Arne Slot, with the Dutchman perfering Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota as his central options.

As a result, the former Benfica man started just eight Premier League games last season as Liverpool clinched the Premier League title.

Writing on Instagram after his departure was confirmed, Nunez said: “Thank you, Liverpool. “Three years on, it’s time to say goodbye. I’ll take with me countless memories that will live with me forever.

“I leave with a full heart, thanks to the love of a crowd that never let me down and always had my back - through the highs and through the lows.

“Liverpool will always be part of who I am. I’ll miss you more than words can say. To all the staff and my teammates - thank you and all the very best for the future.”
