Man United fans are looking forward to the new season after a poor season last year following Ruben Amorim’s appointment.

It’s fair to say that last year was about as bad as it gets for Man United, especially after Ruben Amorim joined. The United boss refused to adapt his style, and the players struggled to suit his, leading the Red Devils to 15th in the Premier League.

Following the window, there is growing optimism that Man United can improve this season, especially as they don’t have a European tournament to focus on, and so they can put all their attention into the Premier League.

Why Man United can be optimistic this season

The Red Devils were in desperate need of a squad revamp, and they have partly achieved that by adding their current attackers, but also offloading Marcus Rashford who joined Barcelona on loan. The likes of Jadon Sancho, Antony, and Alejandro Garnacho are also expected to leave.

Furthermore, United’s current players have had a full pre-season to work under Ruben Amorim, and get used to his style of football. The Man United boss even said himself that his squad looks like a completely different team.

After one of his pre-season games in the Premier League summer series, a 4-1 win against Bournemouth, Amorim said something that gives many United fans a lot of optimism. He told Sky Sports: “It was just a pre-season game, but the feeling with the same players, even being a pre-season game, if you look at the same players now playing, it looks like a different team and that is a good sign."

If they can get a positive result against Premier League title contenders Arsenal during their first game of the season on Sunday at Old Trafford, it could really hand them both a boost of optimism and momentum heading into the season. There is a lot to be excited about.

Man United’s ranking in the fan optimism table

The Red Devils fans are one of the more optimistic fan base in the Premier League this summer, both due to the manager, signings, and pre-season, and according to a study done by The Athletic, they are the fifth-most optimistic fan base in the Premier League.

The only teams above United are Sunderland, Brighton, Liverpool and Chelsea. It said that 86% of Man United fans are optimistic, and just 14% are pessimistic. That puts them above title hopefuls Manchester City and Arsenal, both of whom finished in the top three last season.
