After strong preseason debut, Sai'vion Jones continues to impress ahead of rookie NFL season

Brian Kelly's offense boasts a Heisman-caliber quarterback and elite depth at the wide receiver position. But one area with limited depth is running back.

The Tigers currently have just three players on scholarship in their running backs room. Caden Durham and Kaleb Jackson return, and incoming freshman Harlem Berry has joined the mix. Following the indefinite suspension of freshman running back JT Lindsey, LSU is trying to find more depth.

In the short term, LSU has started giving jack-of-all-trades Ju'Juan Johnson some reps in the backfield. Only time will tell how involved the dynamic playmaker is in the Tiger offense this season, but revamping the RB room for next season is already at the top of Brian Kelly's list.

LSU is still pushing to flip four-star recruit KJ Edwards from Texas A&M. Hailing from Carthage, TX, Edwards is the No. 3 running back in the Rivals300.

Edwards committed to the Aggies over offers from LSU, Texas, and Colorado, among many others. He made an official visit to Baton Rouge over the summer, and despite his commitment to Texas A&M, LSU appears to still be in the mix. Edwards is scheduled to come back to LSU for another visit this fall.

LSU has remained in contact with Edwards, with running backs coach Frank Wilson leading the charge. Along with LSU, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound running back will also visit the Texas Longhorns in the fall.

Last season, Edwards rushed for 1,789 yards and 23 touchdowns for Carthage High School. He also averaged a monstrous 12.6 yards per carry. He added 30 receptions for 383 yards and three touchdowns in the passing game, putting his prized skill set on full display.

Accoring to 247Sports, LSU currently has the eighth-ranked recruiting class in the country for 2026. Edwards would be a big get for the Tigers heading into next season.
