**West Ham** will face Premier League rivals Wolverhampton Wanderers in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
In what will be only Graham Potter’s second-ever cup match as Hammers boss—his first being the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa in his opening game as Irons gaffer—West Ham have been handed a less-than-favourable away draw.
The Hammers will travel to Molineux in the week commencing 25 August to kick off their EFL Cup campaign. The fixture comes just three days after West Ham’s [Premier League](https://www.claretandhugh.info/premier-league-bio/) clash with Chelsea at the London Stadium.
Remarkably, this will be the first-ever League Cup meeting between the two clubs, with their only previous domestic cup encounters coming in the FA Cup.
Wolves, now managed by Vítor Pereira, will also have a tight turnaround, facing an away trip to Bournemouth only two days before the tie—meaning West Ham will at least benefit from an extra day’s rest.
That said, most would agree it would have been preferable to draw lower-league opposition at home. As it stands, this draw doesn’t seem to particularly suit either side.
