Aston Villa have ruled out an exit for Emiliano Martinez due to the limited time remaining in the summer transfer window.
According to Fichajes, Emiliano Martinez may not be allowed to leave Aston Villa, with Unai Emery and the club making the decision. The Argentine stopper seemed destined to leave the Birmingham side since the end of last season, with Manchester United among those heavily linked.
Emiliano Martinez was seen making an emotional gesture to Aston Villa fans after the final home game of the season, a win over Tottenham. Those signs at the time leaned towards an imminent exit from the club, as media reports began piling up linking the stopper with a move elsewhere.
Over the subsequent months, Martinez has seen plenty of links to some of the top clubs as well as those in Saudi Arabia. Yet, the Argentine international is still at Aston Villa, with the big possibility of playing a sixth full season with the club since making his £17 million move from Arsenal in 2020 rising.
PSG recently saw links to Emiliano Martinez before they signed Lucas Chevalier, while there were links with Saudi Pro League outfits and even Atletico Madrid at some point. Manchester United are the club with the most serious interest, with Ruben Amorim keen to land Martinez as a replacement for Andre Onana.
Manchester United were in talks to bring Martinez, but so far any deal has proved complicated owing to many factors. For starters, the price point might have been a big issue for the Red Devils, while their inability to move Onana on in the window was another. More importantly, the club may have prioritised other positions over the goalkeeping one, although they could still move for a new stopper before the window shuts.
Aston Villa to keep Emiliano Martinez
Aston Villa had been thinking about keeping Martinez, and now it appears the club might have made that decision. The £17 million Aston Villa mainstay still has four years to run on his contract at Villa Park, as the club are leaning towards shutting the doors on an exit for the Argentine international.
The main reason for this stance could have been the injection of cash from the sale of Jacob Ramsey, as well as the limited time to find a replacement for Emiliano Martinez. With the Premier League season commencing in a few days, Unai Emery may not want to lose his undisputed No.1, although if Aston Villa can find a viable replacement before deadline day, an exit could still be on the cards.
