Albion handed away draw in Carabao Cup - at the scene of a goal by Elvis

Their ball was pulled out as an away team by former Seagulls loanee Lee Hendrie in this evening’s draw.

The tie will be played the week after next.

Albion go to Everton on the Sunday before that so it would appear their cup tie will be played on Wednesday, August 27 or Thursday, August 28.

But a date has NOT been confirmed.

Oxford made a losing start to the second-tier campaign when they went down 1-0 at home to Portsmouth.

Albion fans might recall a 4-2 League Cup win at Oxford nine year ago in the early weeks of the Championship promotion season.

Goal from Sam Adekugbe, Kazenga LuaLua (pictured), Elvis Manu and Tomer Hemed secured what was quite a hard-fought win, with the Seagulls only running away with it in the later stages.

Fabian Hurzeler could see the tie as a great chance to give players game time – but always bearing in mind the Seagulls are determined to win a trophy.

Albion were the highest ranked side in the draw.

The nine top-flight sides involved in Europe this season – Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City, Chelsea, holders Newcastle, Tottenham, Aston Villa, Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace – will enter the competition in the third round.
