Suns hire experienced NBA coach

The Phoenix Suns are hiring veteran coach Steve Clifford as a coaching advisor to support first-year head coach Jordan Ott.

The Phoenix Suns are bringing in former NBA head coach Steve Clifford as a coaching advisor, according to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype.

Clifford, who turns 64 next month, served as head coach of the Charlotte Hornets from 2013–18 and again from 2022–24.

He also led the Orlando Magic from 2018 to 2021. Over 10 seasons as a head coach, he compiled a 340–461 (.424) regular-season record and made four playoff appearances.

Before taking over his first NBA team, Clifford built a lengthy résumé as an assistant, working with the New York Knicks, Houston Rockets, Orlando Magic, and Los Angeles Lakers from 2001 to 2013.

He also spent more than 15 years coaching at the college level, both as an assistant and a head coach.

In his new advisory role, Clifford will give Suns head coach Jordan Ott a seasoned voice to lean on as Ott begins his first year at the helm.
