Leeds United ‘favourites’ to beat Newcastle in transfer battle as mega £44m Man Utd deal ‘advances’

The biggest new Premier League transfer rumours - with news from Leeds, Newcastle, Manchester United, Everton and more.

It’s time once more for us to round up and review the biggest and juiciest new Premier League transfer rumours – and we’re starting things off today with a story for Leeds United and Newcastle fans.

According to Caught Offside, Leeds are “emerging as favourites” in the race to sign Leicester City attacking midfielder Bilal El Khannouss – a race which involves several other sides but “most notably” Newcastle United.

Leeds have taken the “most concrete steps” towards securing a deal for the young Moroccan and have apparently offered the 21-year-old a £50,000 weekly salary during talks with his representatives.

The Yorkshire club are also “ready to pay” the £24.5m release clause included in El Khannouss’ contract, and while Newcastle are said to have had “some contacts with [his] camp”, no offer has been made. Arsenal, apparently, monitored the player but never decided to move forward.

The 3AM Verdict: Crystal Palace and Spurs are among other teams we’veseen mentioned, although they’re not name-checked in this report. We think it’s too early to declare Leeds favourites as they’re merely the first to bid and not necessarily the last, but with Newcastle moving forJacob Ramsey and Yoane Wissa, it looks like they might give Daniel Farke a free run on this one.

£44m Manchester United move ‘advancing’

Let’s get the latest news from Manchester United now, courtesy of Fabrizio Romano – who tells us that AC Milan “keep advancing” their interest in unwanted centre-forward Rasmus Højlund, and we now have some details of the proposed deal.

The young Dane would head to the San Siro on loan for an initial fee of €6m, with a €45m purchase option included in the deal, for a total potential package of £44m. Milan would cover the player’s salary.

Talks between Milan and the player’s representatives are “ongoing”, per Romano, with the player said to be “opening doors” to the move having recently indicated his desire to stay and fight for his place at Old Trafford.

The 3AM Verdict: If Milan have a buy option that they can opt out of, then this may not be great business from United – they need cash to fund what has already been an expensive summer, and they’re not getting big sales over the line. Still, this deal does look very likely to happen regardless, and getting his salary off the books is something.

Everton submit £37m striker bid

Let’s finish with a story for Everton fans – if Football Insider have their facts straight, then the Toffees “have submitted” a £37m bid for AS Roma forward Artem Dovbyk as they work to add some firepower to David Moyes’ squad.

Everton and Roma are both owned by the Friedkin Group, so presumably negotiations won’t be too challenging so long as the 28-year-old can be persuaded to move to Merseyside – and he’s “believed to be keen on a move to England”.

Everton aren’t the only club interested in Dovbyk, however, with West Ham United, Leeds and Sunderland all “credited with an interest” in the Ukrainian striker, but only Everton are alleged to have tabled a formal offer.

The 3AM Verdict: As far as we can tell, Football Insider are the only media source claiming that a bid has been made, so we’d want some corroboration of that one before we believe it. As for the other teams, Leeds are set to sign Dominic Calvert-Lewin, so they are likely out of the running.
