Manchester United youngster Sekou Kone is conscious and stable after suffering a head injury against Tamworth.
United's Under-21s' game against Tamworth in the National League Cup was forced to be abandoned on Wednesday evening after Kone suffered a head injury at the end of the first half.
Kone required medical attention and was taken to hospital in an ambulance. The game was unable to continue without an ambulance on-site and so had to be abandoned.
United have now released a statement on Kone's condition.
The statement said: "Manchester United's National League Cup game at Tamworth was abandoned close to the end of the first half.
"The tie was halted due to a head injury suffered by Reds midfielder Sekou Kone, inside his own box, and the youngster was taken off on a stretcher.
"We can confirm Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team.
"He has been taken to hospital, as a precaution, for further checks.
"Everybody at the club wishes him a speedy recovery."
