Man Utd now ready to table an initial£80m to sign £120m man - Miguel Delaney

Manchester United are currently figuring out how to construct a payment package to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba as the Seagulls want around £120 million for the 21-year-old, according to the Independent journalist Miguel Delaney.

The Red Devils are considering offering an initial £80m, with the rest made up of add-ons as head coach Ruben Amorim is pushing for the signing of a new midfielder.

Man United are also open to including a player such as Jadon Sancho as a makeweight as part of the deal.

However, Brighton are unlikely to be keen as they would want most of their £120m asking price paid before agreeing to sell Baleba.

The Cameroon international is open to joining Man United, and agreeing personal terms will not be a problem.

Getting a deal done for him this summer could be tricky, and they will not hesitate to return for him next year if a move to bring him to the Old Trafford club does not materialise before the end of the summer transfer window.

They have added Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbuemo and Benjamin Sesko to their attack, but Amorim feels a central midfielder in the mould of the Brighton star is the missing piece of the jigsaw.

Man United want to sell Antony, Sancho, Alejandro Garnacho, Tyrell Malacia and possibly Rasmus Hojlund to raise much-needed funds, but they have made little progress so far.

The Red Devils are likely to keep trying for Baleba until the very last day of the window, and where there is a will, there is a way.

Adding such a talented youngster to their midfield could be a game-changer as he is not the finished article yet despite his current quality.

Baleba has the potential to become the best player in his position in the world, and Man United are desperate to have him as they look to reclaim their position at the top of English football.
