Man United issue Kone statement after worrying head injury

Manchester United have revealed that Sekou Kone is "conscious, stable and communicating with United's medical team" after being stretchered off the field against Tamworth on Wednesday night.

The 19-year-old was named in the starting side for Man United Under-21s in the National League Cup fixture.

Kone suffered a head injury in the latter stages of the first half, though, which subsequently led to the match being abandoned, with the teenager leaving the field on a stretcher.

The midfielder had treatment in an ambulance; a replacement ambulance was therefore required, and the delay meant that the decision was made to call off the match, according to the Manchester Evening News.

Man United have since provided a positive update on the health of their midfielder, though, with Kone currently receiving medical care at a hospital.

"We can confirm Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team. He has been taken to hospital, as a precaution, for further checks. Everybody at the club wishes him a speedy recovery," read a statement from Man United on Wednesday night.

Update on Sekou Kone after he sustained a head injury in tonight’s National League Cup game:

Sekou is conscious, stable and communicating with United’s medical team.

He has been taken to hospital as a precaution for further checks.

Kone injury led to Man United Under-21s clash being abandoned

Chido Obi was also in the starting side for Man United Under-21s, in addition to Bendito Mantato, with the duo, alongside Kone, travelling to the United States for the club's pre-season tour.

Kone is yet to make his competitive debut for Man United, but it is understood that he is firmly in the thoughts of first-team head coach Ruben Amorim for the 2025-26 campaign.

Obi is expected to be on the bench for Sunday's Premier League clash with Arsenal, but it is now likely that Kone will be facing a period on the sidelines, with the club expected to be cautious when it comes to his recovery.

Kone made the move to Man United from Guidars FC in 2024, and he has scored twice and provided one assist in 13 appearances for the Red Devils at Under-21s level.
