Kristaps Porzingis' Joke About His Post-Retirement Plans Catches Attention on Wednesday

Aug 13, 2025 4:40 PM EDT

Kristaps Porzingis might be in the middle of a dream run with the Boston Celtics, cashing in on a massive contract and playing some of the best basketball of his career, but even he knows the hardwood won’t last forever.

The 7-foot-3 Latvian star has already started thinking about life after basketball and, in true Porzingis fashion, he’s got a plan that’s equal parts unexpected and entertaining. On Wednesday, he let slip what he intends to do once he hangs up his sneakers, and let’s just say… it’s not exactly what you’d expect from an NBA All-Star.

While chatting with a Latvian website, Porzingis playfully revealed which sport he’d like to try his hand at next though he made it clear he was joking. That said, he did drop a more serious nugget: he’s already involved as an investor in something related to MMA. He’s keeping the details under wraps for now, but promised to spill the beans once everything’s finalized. Porzingis’ off-beat plan drew a lot of attention from fans who supported his idea as well as ridiculed it.

Kristaps Porzingis’ MMA project and plans

In the same interview Porzingis admitted that MMA holds a special place in his heart calling it his absolute favorite sport to watch. His passion for it runs so deep that he’s now involved in a brand-new MMA project, though he says it’s still in the works and he’ll share more once things are locked in.

He even confessed to stepping into the cage himself in the past, but out of respect for one of the teams he played for, he promised not to seriously train or compete while still in his basketball career. For now, he’s “saving it up” for when his days on the court are behind him.
