United expect'formal offer'for Garnacho as Amorim warns against'cheap deal'

Manchester United are expecting Chelsea to make a formal offer for winger Alejandro Garnacho, the latest report has claimed.

The Red Devils will hope for a significantly better Premier League season than 2024-25, with the club preparing for their opening fixture against Arsenal at Old Trafford on Sunday.

Having made several offensive additions, including the likes of Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko, expectations are high for the upcoming campaign.

Though Ruben Amorim has been afforded a number of signings, there are still players with an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Sky Sports claim that United believe that Chelsea will make a formal offer for Garnacho, who has fallen out with Amorim, but add that the Blues hope to pay significantly less than the Red Devils' valuation of £50m.

Should Chelsea pay £50m for Garnacho?

Garnacho's 2024-25 season was disappointing, with the Argentine scoring just six goals in the Premier League while provding two assists.

Since becoming a first-team regular in 2022-23, the winger has never scored more than seven times in the top flight, and he has shown inconsistencies in the final third.

At just 21 years old, Garnacho could still improve significantly, and perhaps it would be worthwhile to invest in the forward's long-term potential.

Attackers like Anthony Elanga, Noni Madueke and Jamie Gittens have also made moves this summer, with all leaving their respective clubs for fees in the region of £50m.

It should be said that United have not included Garnacho in their pre-season fixtures, and given they are actively trying to move him on, Chelsea may feel justified in paying less than the previously mentioned wingers.

Has Ruben Amorim taken the right approach with Garnacho and Marcus Rashford?

In the process of revamping his forward line, Amorim has either allowed a number of senior stars to leave, or frozen them out of his plans for the upcoming Premier League season.

Boyhood fan Marcus Rashford was sent out on loan to Barcelona, while Antony, Garnacho and Jadon Sancho appear to have no future under the Red Devils boss.

Removing so many players while integrating Matheus Cunha, Sesko and Mbeumo into the starting XI could be risky, especially as the trio may not be able to be taken out of the spotlight.

Keeping the likes of Rashford at the club could also have been seen as the wrong approach as it may have been interpreted as rewarding players for subpar performances.

By taking such a hardline stance, Amorim has highlighted his intolerance for anything he perceives as less than 100% commitment.
