‘He was killing them’: Inside Amon-Ra St. Brown’s unstoppable day against Miami

ALLEN PARK -- Amon-Ra St. Brown and the Detroit Lions had the breakout offensive showing that fans have been waiting to hear about since camp started.

MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast was there for the dominating day for the Lions to open joint practices against the Miami Dolphins. St. Brown put on a show from the first one-on-one rep of the entire practice right up until the final whistle blew on Wednesday.

“In one-on-one drills, St. Brown catches a 40-yard touchdown. I didn’t even have my pen out yet. They were stretching. I look up, St. Brown is beating (Dolphins cornerback) Jack Jones down the field,” recounted co-host Ben Raven on the latest episode of MLive’s Dungeon of Doom podcast, sounding somewhat in disbelief at what he witnessed.

St. Brown had such a good day that the Lions posted a highlight reel of just his plays, and it was more than a minute long.

It wasn’t just the offense running the show for the Lions, though. Detroit’s defense had an impressive showing on the other side of the field, as well.

The Dolphins scored only once on 16 plays in red-zone work, with the touchdown coming on their final shot. Miami’s first-team offense did not score once against the Lions in that work across eight plays.

While the Dolphins were without receiver Tyreek Hill, and fellow wideout Jaylen Waddle was limited. The Lions were without safety Kerby Joseph and cornerback Terrion Arnold, not to mention defensive lineman Alim McNeill, and still controlled the action.

“This dog mentality that the Lions have, it’s because they practice so hard against each other. So, when they go out against other teams, they’re not -- They’re not ready to embrace the Lions’ physicality. And we saw that today,” co-host Kory Woods explained.
