All the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding Chelsea as they prepare for their Premier League opener.

Chelsea are now preparing for their Premier League opener this weekend after a strange looking pre-season owing to their successful FIFA Club World Cup campaign. The Blues have been steady with their summer recruitment, with the West London club balancing their spending after a hefty fine from UEFA.

Donnarumma links

Chelsea have been linked with a move for PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, who will leave the club this summer after being replaced. Graeme Bailey has told TBR Football: “Manchester United, as we have revealed, have an interest; they wanted to improve their goalkeeping department this summer, and two options they like are Donnarumma and Emi Martinez, but a deal for the Italian is there for them, in theory, to do. But others are looking – I am told Donnarumma’s camp have spoken to Chelsea and Manchester City. City, for their part, are in talks with Galatasaray, who were keen on Donnarumma, over Ederson.

“We now expect that Ederson could be heading to Istanbul this summer, which could free them up to make a move for Donnarumma. I’m also told that Bayern Munich are potentially in the mix for him.”

Defender search

Chelsea are now said to be searching for a new centre-back after the injury to Levi Colwill that will cost the centre-back much of the season. Simon Phillips has reported via his SubStack: “Sources have said this week that the club are discussing a new centre back again, and although we don’t have any solid names yet and will update accordingly when we do, there is talk of a potential loan deal being done for an incoming centre back.

"Chelsea do still hold an interest in Antonio Silva from Benfica, but the Marc Guehi noise is dying off because he prefers to go elsewhere at the moment. At the moment, it’s still all being considered, but at this point I’d be surprised if Chelsea now don’t sign a new centre back this window. It could still rest on player sales, but that will only be if we decide to sign a permanent new centre back rather than loan one in, which as I say, is now being spoken about internally."

Foster on Chelsea

Former goalkeeper turned pundit Ben Foster says he is excited by Chelsea this season after their summer business. He said on his YouTube show: “I’m buzzing to see Chelsea this year, because the way they’ve done it is completely mad, right? Some of the players have been able to sell in the last month or so for crazy money.

“Even a couple years ago, we’re all laughing and going, why are you spending so much money on these young players. In fairness, they’re selling them for just as much as what they’re buying them for. So he’s doing well so far, but the way that they did the Club World Cup, I’m thinking maybe they might have just turned a corner.”
