Chelsea players took home $500k bonuses for winning Club World Cup — report

Chelsea may not pay the highest wages in the business anymore, unlike at the heights of the Roman Abramovich Era, but we are all about incentives and bonuses to reward the highest performers. The tech bros might also tell you all about our compensation and benefits packages: have you seen our game room and did we tell you about the on-site massage therapist available 24/7? Bro!

We’ve seen in the last couple years how these incentives and rewards will be used to keep players happy — such as new contracts for Enzo Fernández and Cole Palmer and, soon, Moisés Caicedo and Marc Cucurella despite already existing (very) long-term deals — and with this summer’s major triumph, we’re also seeing that we’re far from stingy when it comes to bonuses.

According to The Athletic, more than £10m was distributed among the players for winning FIFA’s inaugural expanded tournament, which works out to about $500k per. Not bad for a month’s work!

Meanwhile, Chelsea’s overall take-home (before taxes and such) ended up working out to around $115m (about £80-85m). Thanks, FIFA DAZN Saudi Arabia!
