Wolves are preparing for the start of the new 2025/26 Premier League season
Wolves have the chance to bring in some new signings before the end of the transfer window. They also have the opportunity to sell some players over the coming weeks. The transfer window shuts on Monday 1st September at 7pm.
Vitor Pereira is preparing for his first full season in charge at Molineux. He was picked as their replacement for Gary O’Neil during the last campaign. The Portuguese head coach has since made a positive impression and has become a popular figure.
Wolves boost in pursuit of Ben Doak
According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool will ‘accept’ an offer of around £20million for Ben Doak. The report suggests the Reds won’t stand in the way of the attacker leaving Anfield if his valuation is met. Leeds United and West Ham have been mentioned as potential suitors.
Wolves have been linked with the player this summer, as per reporter David Lynch on X. They now have an ideal opportunity to try and swoop and get their man with him seemingly available for transfer. His chances of breaking into the starting XI with his current club right now are slim due to competition from the likes of Mohamed Salah and Cody Gakpo, among others.
Doak, 19, has been on the books at Liverpool since joining them in 2022. Prior to his move to England, he rose up through the ranks at Celtic and played twice for the Hoops’ first-team. He has made 10 appearances for the Reds in all competitions to date, three of which have come in the league.
He was loaned out to Middlesbrough last term in the Championship to get some experience under his belt and boost his development. The Scotland international, who has six caps to his name, went on to play 24 games for Boro in all competitions and scored three goals before injury struck. Boro ended up missing out on the play-offs and subsequently sacked Michael Carrick to pave the way for ex-Watford and Luton Town head coach Rob Edwards to take over at the Riverside Stadium instead.
Why Ben Doak would suit Wolves
Doak would give Wolves more competition and depth at the top end of the pitch. If they signed him, he would give them something different to call upon in game. He is young, has potential to develop down the line and he would be a shrewd long-term option.
Leaving Liverpool for a new start somewhere else would be a sensible decision by the Dalry-born man. He needs to go somewhere now he is guaranteed regular action and Arne Slot can’t offer him that right now. He is out of contract next year meaning the Reds risk losing him for nothing if they don’t cash in now or in January, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension anytime soon.
Time will tell whether Wolves end up lodging an official bid for Doak. The door has swung open and they should try and tempt him. However, other teams are in the frame as well like Leeds and West Ham meaning there is competition for his services.
