Alan Shearer makes Jack Grealish transfer prediction after Everton loan -'Will be demanding'

Jack Grealish has joined Everton on loan from Manchester City for the 2025-26 season

Alan Shearer is backing Jack Grealish to be a success at Everton. If they can get him out on the pitch enough.

The 29-year-old has joined the Blues on loan for the 2025-26 season after falling out of favour at Manchester City. Grealish won three Premier League titles at the Etihad Stadium and played a crucial role in the team's historic treble win in 2022-23.

Since then, Pep Guardiola has called upon him less frequently and this summer he was left out of the squad for the Club World Cup. Grealish has also suffered with a number of niggling injury issues that have prevented him from being available for selection.

A transfer always felt on the cards this summer as a result, although Grealish still represents a coup for Everton.

Speaking to Betfair, Shearer - the Premier League's all-time top goalscorer - said the move can work out well for everyone.

"Grealish going to Everton sounds like a good move for both parties," he said. "Jack has to get out and play - and clearly he wasn't going to do that as much as he wanted to at Man City.

"The most important thing is that Everton have got a very good player, if they can get him right and get him out on the pitch.

"Jack also gets to play football before the World Cup with an opportunity to stake a claim for a place in the England squad. It's a really good move for both parties."

There is a perception around Grealish that he has become a system player at City. That's compared to his time at Aston Villa, where it is claimed he had more freedom and more of a stage to become the £100 million player Guardiola pushed for.

Shearer thinks the Villa-version of Grealish could be a big asset to Everton and has backed manager David Moyes to bring that edge to his game again.

"He's got a chance to get his career back on track and it's a great chance at a huge football club, in a new stadium with a very, very experienced manager," Shearer continued. "Let's see what that brings.

"He needs to show the energy, hunger and desire that he showed at Aston Villa and when he went to Man City. Whether we ever saw the brilliant individual Jack Grealish at Man City that we did at Aston Villa I'm not sure but we saw a great team player who helped them win all the trophies that they have done.

"There's no doubt the individual brilliance is there, it has to come out at Everton now. They're looking to be bigger and better than in the past so not only is it a big opportunity for him but it's big for Everton.

"David Moyes will be demanding that Jack gives everything he's got because he's an experienced guy, he's been around the block and he knows what makes players tick. He's done it all before and he understands the game, dressing room and individuals because he's worked with enough and he's an experienced manager."

Everton have been busy in the transfer window this summer. The arrival of Grealish on loan on Tuesday is their sixth signing with Carlos Alcaraz, Thierno Barry, Mark Travers, Adam Aznou and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall also joining.

The ECHO understands that right-back, central midfield and a right-sided forward player are still targets.
