Dominic Calvert-Lewin won’t be joining Newcastle United, much to the relief of some supporters.
Rejection after rejection, with Joao Pedro, Liam Delap, Hugo Ekitike and Benjamin Sesko all turning down moves to St James’ Park, words dispelled the Calvert-Lewin rumours - but not actions.
Confirmation that Dominic Calvert-Lewin won’t be joining Newcastle United
Newcastle boss Eddie Howe is a big fan of Calvert-Lewin’s, having shown interest in recent seasons. He was, only a few years, regarded as England’s second-best striker behind Harry Kane.
The 28-year-old’s ability isn’t necessarily in question, though his injury record is. And it is for that reason why signing Calvert-Lewin wouldn’t have been overly popular among supporters.
Again, although Newcastle have played down links to Calvert-Lewin, previous interest and struggles this summer have failed to convince fans that a move was off the table.
But now confirmation that the striker won’t be rocking up at St James’ Park is there in black and white, with The Athletic reporting that Calvert-Lewin has reached an agreement to join newly-promoted Leeds United.
Calvert-Lewin is set to undergo his medical ahead of ending his six-week search for a new club following his release by Everton, where he made 274 and scored 71 goals across nine years.
Newcastle United pushing to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa
The Magpies have identified Brentford’s Yoane Wissa as the ideal replacement for Wilson, on the back of a campaign where the DR Congo international scored 19 times in the Premier League.
Wissa has already made it known to the Bees of his intention to join Newcastle, having previously refused to train with Keith Andrews’ squad before resuming last week.
A week on however, and the tables have turned slightly, it seems, with Wissa, as reported by the Daily Mail’s Craig Hope, told to train away from the squad ahead of Sunday’s Premier League opener away to Nottingham Forest.

Brentford won’t sanction his exit until finding a replacement and progress appears to be happening on that front. According to talkSPORT, the West London outfit are in advanced talks to sign Stade Rennais striker Arnaud Kalimuendo and are optimistic regarding a deal.
The same station also claims AFC Bournemouth are close to agreeing a deal for Bayer Leverkusen forward Amine Adli, which, in turn, could allow Dango Ouattara to join Brentford.
