NBA exec values Jonathan Kuminga above Timberwolves starter

Amid his contract standoff with the Warriors, Jonathan Kuminga is seeking three years and $82 million, with an NBA executive saying he'd pay him $125 million over five years and rating his upside above Jaden McDaniels.

The contract standoff between the Golden State Warriors and restricted free agent forward Jonathan Kuminga shows no sign of ending.

Kuminga has been vocal about his belief that he can become a major force in the NBA, but the Warriors remain firm on their contract terms.

He has turned down both the team's $7.9 million qualifying offer and an improved two-year, $45 million deal. Instead, he is seeking a three-year contract worth around $82 million.

An anonymous NBA executive, speaking to The Athletic, said he would offer Kuminga $125 million over five years, comparing him to Minnesota Timberwolves forward Jaden McDaniels.

"McDaniels is great in his role, but J.K. is more talented and has higher upside if he ever can hit," the executive said.

The impasse has stalled the Warriors' other offseason moves, leaving them as the only team yet to sign or trade a player this summer.

Last season, Kuminga averaged 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 2.2 assists over 47 games (10 starts, 24.3 minutes). For comparison, McDaniels put up 12.2 points. 5.7 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 82 appearances (82 starts, 31.9 minutes).
