Chelsea’s social media post, published moments after PSG’s dramatic Super Cup win over Tottenham on Wednesday night, has gone viral. For much of the evening at Udinese’s Bluenergy Stadium, it looked as though Thomas Frank’s side would be the ones adding to their European pedigree. Goals from Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero had given Spurs a commanding two-goal advantage, which they maintained until the 85th minute.
But if Tottenham have developed an unfortunate trademark in recent years, it’s their late collapses in high-pressure sitations. Lee Kang-In pulled one back with five minutes of normal time remaining, before Goncalo Ramos struck the equaliser deep into stoppage time. With the score locked at 2-2, last season’s Champions League winners went on to claim victory in a penalty shootout. Watch the highlights below:
For Spurs, it was a bitter pill. What had looked like another European triumph to follow last year’s Europa League win under Ange Postecoglou instead ended in heartbreak. But for their London rivals, it presented the perfect opportunity to twist the knife with a cheeky online dig.

Nuno Mendes’ decisive penalty hit the net at 10:09pm UK time - and almost instantly, Chelsea's Twitter admin posted online to remind their rivals of their own win over PSG in the Club World Cup. Mere seconds later, the Blues posted a message that read (see the X post below):
“#OnThisDay exactly one month ago, Chelsea beat PSG in the Club World Cup final!”
Chelsea claimed the US-hosted summer tournament with a commanding 3-0 win over PSG in the final - something their rivals Spurs couldn’t manage, despite having looked on course for an easy victory in the Super Cup. It was an impressive feat for a side that entered the competition far from favourites, having spent years absent from the Premier League title race.
PSG, by contrast, had arrived fresh from winning club football’s biggest prize - the Champions League - by thrashing Inter Milan by a record-breaking margin of 5-0 in the final. With that scalp in their pocket, the Stamford Bridge faithful are feeling bullish about the new season, evidenced by a recent study showing they’re even more optimistic than Liverpool supporters heading into the 2025/26 campaign.
Meanwhile, Tottenham head into the season as something of an unknown quantity under new manager Thomas Frank. The former Brentford boss is known for bringing stability, and after a productive transfer window - potentially still adding Savinho and Eberechi Eze - the Lilywhites have reason to believe a brighter chapter could be on the horizon, even if it has started in a familiar underwhelming fashion.
