'I’d be surprised': Roy Keane admits he'd be stunned if Manchester City sign £43m star

Everyone at Manchester City is currently preparing for the 2025/26 Premier League campaign.

Pep Guardiola’s men have had an unusual pre-season due to their participation at the FIFA Club World Cup, but the Manchester side looked sharp against Palermo last weekend, with Tijjani Reijnders among the players standing out against the Italian club.

Off the pitch, work is still being done on transfers, with Man City’s summer kicking back into life as a result of Tottenham’s interest in Savinho.

Another major exit could also be on the cards at the Etihad Stadium over the coming weeks, and with a high-profile name linked as a replacement, Roy Keane has admitted he’d be surprised if the player arrives in Manchester.

Roy Keane would be surprised if Gianluigi Donnarumma joined Manchester City

Galatasaray remain interested in Ederson, having been keen on signing the Brazilian all summer, and if the legendary City goalkeeper leaves Manchester, Guardiola is said to want Gianluigi Donnarumma to replace the 31-year-old.

Having signed James Trafford already this summer, Keane has admitted that he would be surprised if Man City moved for the Italian goalkeeper before the transfer window shuts.

“Donnarumma is available. But apparently, he might be going to City. But then what does that look like for Trafford?” Jill Scott said on the latest episode of Stick to Football.

To which Keane responded by saying: “I’d be surprised if he went to City.”

The goalkeeper’s agent has confirmed that the Premier League is Donnarumma’s most likely destination, and it now remains to be seen if Man City can reach an agreement with PSG for the Italian.

The Ligue 1 champions want £43m (€50m) to sell Donnarumma, but that is a figure the Manchester club are not willing to match.

James Trafford’s height stuns Roy Keane

If Man City cannot get a deal done for Donnarumma, Trafford will likely become Guardiola’s number one at some stage during the 25/26 season.

Speaking about the Englishman on Stick to Football, Keane was surprised to hear that the 22-year-old stands at six foot six.

“How big do you think Trafford is? He’s six foot six,” Carragher said to the rest of the panel.

“Is he?”, Gary Neville responded with. Before Keane chipped in, saying, “No chance, no way.”

This transfer scenario seems very harsh on Trafford, especially ahead of a season where he would have wanted to make a claim to be England’s goalkeeper for the 2026 World Cup; however, there is no doubt the new Man City star will be up for the challenge.
