CLEVELAND, Ohio — You can question Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones’ ability as a general manager. It’s difficult to question his business acumen.
The Cowboys remain the most valuable franchise in the NFL at $12.8 billion, according to an analysis by Sportico. It’s a significant increase from just one year ago, when they were valued at $10.1 billion.

They not only top the NFL, but also are the most valuable franchise in the world in any sport. And this comes despite the team not appearing in a Super Bowl since January 1996, when they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-17, in Super Bowl XXX for their fifth title.
When they last appeared in the Super Bowl, the Cowboys had an approximate value of $272 million, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Jones bought the Cowboys in 1989 for $140 million, CBS Sports reports. The latest valuation is a 9,043% increase from the original price.
Two other NFL teams top the $10 billion mark, the Los Angeles Rams at $10.43 billion and the New York Giants at $10.25 billion.
The rest of the top 10 are the New England Patriots ($8.76 billion), San Francisco 49ers ($8.6 billion), Philadelphia Eagles ($8.43 billion), Miami Dolphins ($8.25 billion), New York Jets ($8.11 billion), Las Vegas Raiders ($7.9 billion) and Washington Commanders ($7.47 billion).
The team with the lowest valuation is based in Ohio, but it’s not the Browns, which rank No. 23 at $6.14 billion. That’s a 19% increase from 2024, according to the survey. Team owners Jimmy and Dee Haslam purchased the Browns in 2012 for $1 billion.
The Cincinnati Bengals are at the bottom of the list at $5.5 billion, which still is a 17% increase from 2024.
CBS Sports reports the average valuation of an NFL team is $7.13 billion, an average increase of 20% from 2024. The average NBA team is valued at $4.6 billion, the average MLB team at $2.82 billion and the average NHL team at $1.79 billion, CBS Sports reports.
