Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite could miss the first six weeks of the new Premier League season with a hamstring injury.

Branthwaite limped out of training with a hamstring problem just days before Everton’s Premier League opener against Leeds.

The England defender recently signed a new contract with Everton, keeping him at the club until 2030.

However, his injury record might begin to concern some fans.

Branthwaite’s injury record may begin to worry Everton fans

Branthwaite was momentous for Everton last season, but he missed a huge chunk of their early matches with a groin problem.

He underwent groin surgery last summer to treat persistent groin problems, but the recovery took longer than expected. He suffered several setbacks and wasn’t back in the team until October.

He suffered a hamstring injury during his loan spell at PSV Eindhoven in March 2023, which kept him out of action for four games. Hamstring injuries were not commonplace for him until this moment.

He has also been troubled by ankle injuries at the beginning of his professional career, initially in September 2020 and again in August 2021.

Everton fans will be hoping that Branthwaite enjoys a speedy recovery from his latest setback.

Michael Keane will have to step up during Branthwaite’s absence

For a while, it looked like Michael Keane had played his last game in an Everton shirt.

The Toffees allowed Keane’s contract to run out on 30 June this year, technically making him a free agent.

However, Everton eventually negotiated a new deal with Keane, allowing him to extend his stay on Merseyside.

The 32-year-old will now have a chance to prove his worth in Branthwaite’s absence. He’ll be the favourite to start the game against Leeds alongside James Tarkowski.

Keane only signed a one-year deal, so he’s essentially playing for his Everton future again.

Leeds are a newly-promoted side, but they have spent heavily in the transfer market and picked up some encouraging results in pre-season, so it could be a big test for the experienced pair.

It’ll be hoped that this partnership serves Everton well, so they barely miss Branthwaite during his injury absence.
