Man United Have 3x Bundesliga Winner On 'List' Of Transfer Targets After Contract Talks Stall

Man United have Bayern Munich defender Dayot Upamecano on their “list” of targets, according to reports in the German media.

Bild reporter Christian Falk, who has strong inside sources when it comes to Bayern, shared the information on his CFBayern Insider website.

Upamecano is in the final year of his contract, and talks over an extension have not gone to plan, with the Bundesliga side now fearing that he could leave on a free transfer next summer.

Falk even suggests that the 26-year-old has been offered to Premier League clubs by his agent in recent weeks.

Upamecano could reunite with his former centre-back partner

The France international joined Bayern from RB Leipzig for €42.5m in the summer of 2021, and he has gone on to win three league titles and two German cups over the past four seasons.

For two of those campaigns, Upamecano was partnered in the middle of defence by Matthijs de Ligt. The Dutchman moved to the Allianz Arena from Juventus in 2022 before leaving for United last year. There is a chance the pair could be reunited at Old Trafford if the Red Devils step up their interest in the centre-half.

Man United are prioritising other positions

Despite Upamecano’s apparent availability, it is not a complete surprise that Ruben Amorim’s side haven’t tabled a bid, despite their interest in signing him.

Amorim is believed to have prioritised a move for a midfielder, with Brighton’s Carlos Baleba deemed the no.1 target. It is up for debate whether a move for the Cameroon international is realistic, considering the costs involved.

The Red Devils have also explored the goalkeeper market, having tabled a loan offer for Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez earlier in the summer. PSG’s Gianluigi Donnarumma has been linked, but it is thought that a suitor for Andre Onana may need to be found first. Manchester City are interested in the Italian too, but they have the same issue as they need to offload Ederson.
