Cleveland Browns quarterbacks have kept their team doctors and trainers busy.
Two quarterbacks were already dealing with injuries entering this week’s joint practices with the Philadelphia Eagles. And before Wednesday’s session even started, another signal-caller picked up an injury.
So, which members of a crowded Browns QB room will the Eagles face when the two teams meet in Saturday’s preseason game at Lincoln Financial Field?
It seems as though Shedeur Sanders won’t be suiting up. The much-discussed rookie is “unlikely” to play after reportedly suffering an oblique strain during warmups on Wednesday. He will not practice on Thursday, the second joint practice at the NovaCare Complex.
Sanders was expected to be a must-watch on Saturday. The former Colorado star and son of Deion Sanders became a lightning rod for conversation after experiencing an NFL draft freefall, dropping from first-round consideration to No. 144 overall in the fifth round.
Sanders, who sought out advice from Jalen Hurts after Wednesday’s practice, silenced doubters, momentarily at least, during his first preseason action. He looked good last week, completing 14 of 23 passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in a win over the Carolina Panthers.
It doesn’t look like Sanders will be able to try to build on that performance against the Eagles. So, let’s take a look at who Philadelphia might face on Saturday at the Linc.

Kenny Pickett: Pickett, the Eagles’ 2024 backup, was a popular guy at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday, chatting with former teammates he won a Super Bowl with last season. After a “reset” year in Philly, Pickett was traded to the Browns in March with the hope of contending for the starting job. But the former Steelers first-rounder suffered a hamstring injury on July 26 and has been limited ever since. Pickett took part in 7-on-7 drills on Wednesday but wasn’t cleared for 11-on-11 team periods. His status for Saturday is very much up in the air.
Day 9 Browns Training Camp, August 2, 2025

Dillon Gabriel: Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said Wednesday morning that Sanders would start on Saturday if Gabriel couldn’t play. Then, Sanders got hurt. Gabriel, the third-round rookie out of Oregon, is, like Pickett, also dealing with a hamstring issue. But Gabriel took part in team drills, so that was a positive sign. He struggled, completing only 6 of 19 passes. But if he’s good to go, Saturday could be an extended look for the 24-year-old rookie.

Joe Flacco: Leave it to the 40-year-old to be the most healthy of the bunch. Flacco, the Super Bowl XLVII champion with the Ravens, signed a one-year deal with the Browns to provide veteran leadership and competition. Turns out, Flacco is probably the Week One starter — which is why the south New Jersey native is “unlikely” to play in Saturday’s preseason game.

Tyler Huntley: The Eagles could see quite a bit of Huntley, who the Browns brought in as a free agent because of the injuries to Pickett and Gabriel. Huntley is a dual-threat QB; he served as Lamar Jackson’s backup in Baltimore, after all. Perhaps that will pose a test for young Eagles linebackers like Jihaad Campbell and Smael Mondon.
