Aston Villa have reportedly opened talks with Arsenal over the transfer of attacker Leandro Trossard.

Unai Emery is said to have been interested in signing the Belgian in January, but higher-ups at the North London club had decided to offer the player a new contract and were confident of him renewing terms.

However, the 30-year-old opted not to re-sign, and it seems to have left the door open for an exit this summer.

According to reports, Trossard has been made aware of Villa's interest and it is being left up to him to make the final decision on where his future lies.

It is claimed Arsenal value the former Brighton & Hove Albion star at around £18 million, an amount that would be no stumbling block for the Villans who are set to recoup a lump sum from the deal to sell Jacob Ramsey to Newcastle United.

There is a feeling at the club that Mikel Arteta wishes to keep Trossard, but due to his lack of playing time, would be willing to facilitate a move away.

Especially with Arsenal signing Noni Madueke from Chelsea, and targeting Crystal Palace's Eberechi Eze, regular first-team football looks to continue being an issue for the Belgium international.

Since arriving at the Emirates two years ago, Trossard has proven a popular figure with fans and under Arteta, showing his versatility and an eye for a goal, scoring 28 in 124 appearances as he played an important role in the Gunners competing for Premier League and European titles.
