Manchester City expert joins Derby County as key role filled

Pride Park

All change... a new addition has been made to the Pride Park backroom staff.

Derby County have made an addition to their backroom staff by landing Ryan DeFreitas as the club's new first-team opposition analyst.

DeFretias has left his role as first-team performance analyst at Manchester City to make the move to Pride Park.

He spent three years at the Etihad but has now returned to the East Midlands, where he spent nine years at Leicester City before his move to join Pep Guardiola's staff.

He was appointed as the lead academy performance analyst at the King Power and is now tasked with helping's ambition for Championship success.

The role will include studying the opposition and providing detailed insight to the coaching staff to aid their preparation for fixtures.

Using video analysis, it involves examining tactics, key players, strengths, weaknesses, and set-piece routines.

DeFreitas’s exit from City comes as part of a number of changes that have taken place behind the scenes at the Premier League side over the summer.

Sky Sports deal

Sky has slashed the price of its bundle ahead of the 2025/26 season, saving members £192 and offering more than 1,400 live matches across the Premier League, EFL and more.

Sky will show at least 215 live Premier League games next season, an increase of up to 100 more.

Jürgen Klopp's former right-hand man at Liverpool, Pep Lijnders, was a surprising appointment by Guardiola, who made him his number two.

James French has also made the move from Liverpool to become their set-piece coach.

Assistants Juanma Lillo and Carlos Vicens and first team coach Inigo Dominguez have left the club.
