Brentford forward Mikkel Damsgaard has told the Danish media he was surprised Christian Nørgaard signed for Arsenal this summer.
The Denmark international joined the Gunners last month following six seasons at Brentford. Speaking to Viaplay, and quoted by Tipsbladet, Damsgaard was asked his thoughts on his former teammate joining with Arsenal.
Despite being surprised at Nørgaard heading to the Emirates, he believes it’s a good signing for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Damsgaard said the central midfielder demonstrated what a good footballer he is with his performances for Brentford last season, and is convinced the transfer will prove to be good business by Arsenal.
“Yes, you could say that it was a bit surprising. He really deserved it with how he played last season. I don’t know if it’s an underrated signing, but I really think it’s a really good signing for Arsenal. He’s a player who just has a lot of quality and works really hard,” said the Dane.
Nørgaard joined Brentford in 2019 from Fiorentina and went on to make nearly 200 appearances in all competitions for the Bees.
His performances for the west London club brought him international recognition and he’s gone on to pick up 35 caps for his country since making his debut in 2020.
The player has committed himself to Arsenal until June 2027, with the option of another season.
