Aston Villa have been handed some injury boosts ahead of their Premier League opener against Newcastle United.

Unai Emery’s side host the Magpies on Saturday in a 12.30pm kick-off which is being broadcast live by TNT Sports.

Ross Barkley and Andrés García both missed the club's pre-season trip to the USA, as well as three warm-up games that followed, due to injuries.

However, pictures released by the club this week show that both players have both returned to training.

Morgan Rogers, who went off injured in the second half of Villa’s match with Roma last Wednesday, was also pictured leaving the training pitch at Bodymoor Heath.

Villa played eight friendlies over the summer, winning three - against St Louis, AS Roma and Villarreal.

There were defeats against Walsall and Hansa Rostock in their first two fixtures when Emery named a youthful squad. In the States, they drew 2-2 with Eintracht Frankfurt and Nashville, either side of beating St Louis.

A 3-1 loss at Marseille last Saturday came between a 4-0 win against Roma and a 2-0 victory at Emery’s former club, Villarreal.

Emery will provide a full injury update on Friday afternoon when he speaks to the media.
