It continues to be reported that FC Barcelona could potentially look to bring in a defensive recruit this summer. After all, the departure of Inigo Martinez has left that position slightly more vulnerable. However, options in the market are limited.
Still, one of the main players to keep an eye on during these final days of the summer transfer window is French defender Ibrahima Konate. The 26-year-old Liverpool defender seems to be dealing with contractual uncertainty at the moment, and that could benefit Barça.

As per our sources, the Catalan giants have even held preliminary talks with the player’s inner circle. Moreover, during these talks and discussions, it was revealed that Konate would not be opposed to the idea of becoming a part of the Barça project.
However, at least for now, his priority is to settle his current situation with Liverpool. He wants to understand his role and importance at the club, and if the English side is willing to give him the contract that could convince him to stay in the Premier League.
A rather significant price tag

As for the price tag, the reigning Premier League champions would want around €50 million for the Frenchman if they let him go this summer. However, Barça would only be willing to invest that amount in the player if contract negotiations between him and Liverpool completely break down.
For now, Deco remains in contact with the player’s camp, and the club is actively pursuing this operation. At the same time, however, it must not be forgotten that Real Madrid are quite interested in signing Konate as well, and they are objectively in a stronger financial position than FC Barcelona as of right now.
